Shepherd's Delight

Speaking of burning skies, here's a scene we caught on our way out of Connecticut on Sunday. I couldn't believe the underbellies of those clouds! The whole five minutes this light lasted were magical - and I got some great shots of corn fields and farm land whizzing by under this clotted orange drapery! Lots of people like to knock Connecticut, but here's proof that this state is about more than toilet humor. Yeah, that's for you, J.

The Shape of Light

PipsBDay07 120.jpg

I leaned against the railing in the wind for a while trying to get this shot, as lightning was striking down against the horizon. It was cool to watch the thunderclouds literally roll in and create a thin bold border between the darkening sky and the ocean, which became dark and very flat with the weather.

Diller and Scofidio's Overbite

An inside view through the upper-tier of windows on the ICA's fourth floor. You can see not only the ocean, but also some dramatic skies. And because this floor juts out from the rest of the building, you have a strange sensation of floating above the ground when standing close against the glass. Diller and Scofidio are the architects who designed this wonderful building.

Having a Gas

A shot of the Shell Station sign on Memorial Drive. In my view, this is the Citgo sign of Cambridge.

Balloonatic

Seitz10_06 503.jpg

Here were some balloons, twisted into cool shapes down in Harvard Square a few weekends ago. I'm always impressed with balloon artists. I remember spending the better part of New Year's Eve one year trying to make a dog-shaped balloon, to little avail. I kept my day job.

Out of 'Toons

These clouds sparked a somewhat obvious comparison to the opening sequence of The Simpsons. We were southbound on the Route 3 at the time, so it was a challenge to get a sky-only picture from the inside of the car without including highway, power lines, road signs, and windmills!

Blue Skies Smiling at Me...

HilNoahWedding 066.jpg

I'm not sure whether it's due to all the storms we've been through lately, but Massachusetts has been seeing some incredible skies. This one was taken out in the 'burbs of Boston, over the power lines.

Jet Stream

A plane flying overhead left perfectly straight condensation trails. Apparently, there is a word for this ("contrails") which I never knew!
